The Brandon University Northern Teachers Education Program (BUNTEP) allows students across the province to recieve a university education in their home communities. With sites in , Dauphin, Portage la Prairie, Ashern and Ebb and Flow the BUNTEP program includes more than 150 students.
The Brandon University Students' Union (BUSU) is proud to have BUNTEP students as members of our organization. Since 1969, BUSU has been offering a wide variety of services and benefits to its members. BUSU represents the interests of students in university governance at both the Board of Governors and Senate and to local, provincial and federal government as Local 37 of the Canadian Federation of Students.
BUSU recognizes the importance of distance education to northern Manitoba and seeks to work with BUNTEP students to meet their needs. As members of BUSU, BUNTEP students are entitled to member benefits including funding for clubs and social activities, campaign materials, and other resources. BUSU will be working with northern students to bring as many of our services to as many communities as possible.
The remote locations of many BUNTEP centres means that BUSU will continue to find new and innovative means of providing service delivery. BUSU will continue to evaluate what services can be provided and how. We are keen to work with students at each BUNTEP site in order to develop programming that is meaningful to northern students.
Last year, members of the BUSU Executive visited most of the BUNTEP sites to personally provide ISIC (International Student Identity) cards and information on club funding to members. BUSU representatives look forward to visiting these centers again during the 2010/2011 academic year.
BUNTEP students are also included in the BUSU election process. We at BUSU are continually trying to find ways to improve the voting process at BUNTEP sites and increase the rate of voter participation among northern students.
